My Instagram Truth

Let´s talk about Instagram again. About my latest features and the difficulties I had with each pic and about my personal struggles as a Bookstagrammer.

I´m slowly reaching my 2 year mark on being a Bookstagrammer. And as I´ve mentioned before- Taking pics, using filters, adding captions and finding time isn´t always a walk in the park. In fact- I struggle quite often with Instagram.

Here´s a tiny list of things I struggle with as a Bookstagrammer.

Problem #1 – Time

Time is my biggest enemy. There´s never enough time to get stuff done. While I´m already struggling with keeping a schedule outside my schedule I can´t find time to maintain a Insta-routine. And using an app for Instagram… Another app? I already use too many apps. Don´t need or want another one.

Problem #2- Engaging people

I can´t, not even if my life depended on it, type up anything interesting that would engage a person into having a convo. This is somewhat of a problem for me because I do love to chat but can´t seem to get a few lines up that would help get a convo started. Weird, right? A total lack of talent in that department.

Problem #3 – Filters

Those blasted filters. Those blasted edits on each filter. The problem here is- When there are too many options I can´t seem to find something to use. That´s information overload for me. I´m so indecisive. It takes so long for me to settle on a filter. Sure, there are those lucky pics I take that don´t need a filter but the rest? Brutal.

Problem #4 – Insecurities

Yes, I have my moments of weakness, too. What no one really knows… I have insecurities when it comes to Instagram. While this is a personal struggle I do believe I´m not the only one suffering from the pic pressure. It´s totally unnecessary, I know, but it still happens. It´s the algorithm. It´s my lack of commitment because of the algorithm. It´s because there are so many little turds younger bloggers who spent half their lives on Instagram because they have nothing else to do. I start questioning everything, even myself.

Is it because I´m older? Am I not hip enough? Maybe I care too much?  Maybe I don´t care enough? I´m telling you… the struggle is real and it´s not pretty.

See? Working Instagram isn´t as easy as it seems ( for me ). It´s fun, most of the time but not always easy.

Nevertheless- Here are my recent Instagram features, including a small description on how the pics were made.

1.The Quick Set Up

Believe it or not- This pic was one of the easier ones to take for me. The candle, book, book box, the letter B and the mug were already on the diningroom table. This pic took less than 5 minutes and I only used 1 filter. YAY, for me.

2. The Disaster Shot

It seems like the more I work on my pics the messier they get. This happens when you have an idea and can´t make it happen. A book, a mug and my laptop. 2 Photoshop programs weren´t able to turn this into something presentable. 30 minutes.

3. Action Pic

I can´t really take credit for this pic. It was the husbutt who took this shot. I love reading outside. And when the in-laws are on vacation I can scoot out of my hiding place and enjoy reading without interruptions. This time, the baby followed me and we both read in utter silence ❤ I used 1 filter for this shot then uploaded it on Instagram. 2 minutes, tops. My favorite Insta pic.

4. The Polished Issue

I just made myself a hot chocolate when the idea for a Mug Monday shot hit me. No one would believe me when I´d say that it took me almost an hour to get this pic done. Yupp. Not kidding. First, the book was too large. Second- the mug, as much as I love it, was a pain in the ass to take a pic of. So glossy. No matter what angle I tried I kept seeing my own reflection in the mug. No bueno! Took ages and 3 filters to get this beauty Internet ready.

5. Stolen Goods

Book mail arrived and I came up with the brilliant idea to do a book feature. All I needed was sand and some seashells. Preparations for this feature took a little longer than I had planned but the pic itself took less than 2 minutes to take. I sent the girls to the playground with a ziplock bag and told them to steal sand and then steal the seashells from Grandma´s garden. Voila! The things you can accomplish with stolen goods. I used 2 filters for this baby.

Do you have troubles with filters / captions / taking pics for Instagram? Do you even use the app? Am I the only one winging Instagram? Let´s chat! ❤

I hope you enjoyed my little desperate moment of sharing my hardships with Instagram pics.

Sending lots of book love to each and every one of you!

Morgana ❤ ❤

Book Review- Running Out Of Air by K. T. Swift

synopsis single

Inanna Drew has a problem, and, of course, that problem is a boy. Though she’s quite content to read her books and excel in school, he bothers her and seems incapable of taking a hint. Thus this is a journal, nay, a chronicle that she must put to paper to explain, in her own voice, why he doesn’t deserve the time of day.

All of this changes after a sudden upheaval in her life, making Hadrian Marshall less of a pain in her side and more of a friend to be counted on.

My Thoughts 2

**Copy kindly provided by Netgalley & Nine Star Press in exchange for an honest review**

There´s a strong case of „It´s me, not the book.“ here. I´m sure many others would enjoy this read…. I didn´t, though.

While I enjoy coming – of – age novels I don´t enjoy protagonists who don´t act their age. A High school girl with malicious trail of thoughts and a vocabulary of an experienced adult is just a turn off for me.
From experience, I can say that an unlikable and unrelatable Heroine won´t save a story for me. It wasn´t any different with `Running Out Of Air` by K. T. Swift. running out of air

For me, it felt like the author was trying too hard to create a breathtaking novel. Cool wordy characters, lots of drama… The whole package was just far too over – the – top. The feels didn´t flow over to me. I wasn´t fazed. Instead, I was shaking my head, wondering why on earth anyone would create such an unlikable character that has the power to break what could be a decent read.

With encountering topics like LGBT, family drama and death of a loved one, etc… I really thought I was going to finally hold a work of art in my hands. * sigh *

Nice was to see how the Heroine ( Inanna ) and the Hero ( Hadrian ) stayed connected through their milestone years and that they somehow maintained a relationship I clearly had troubles understanding ( due to the questionable Heroine )

A quick read that didn´t tickle me senseless.

Since this book wasn´t anything near my cup of tea I´m going to go ahead and say that I didn´t like `Running Out Of Air`.

Would I recommend this read? No.

The Cover – 5 stars: I´m a fan of simple covers that grab a reader’s attention.

The Story – 2 stars: It´s the characters fault. Because if you can´t stand the female lead then you have a hell of a hard time enjoying the rest.

The Characters – 2 stars: Questionable, to say the least. Although, I did like Hadrian a tad more than I did Inanna.

My emotional state after finishing this read – Not happy.

2 stars

August Reading List

It´s unbelievable! We´re already 8 months into 2018.

Happy August! The summer is slowly ( very slowly ) coming to an end and soon it´ll be my second favorite time of year. Autumn! That´s what I keep telling myself to keep my spirits up. I can´t take this heat any longer.

Since I´ve been exceptionally good at keeping up with my monthly reading list announcements ( Insert sarcasm ) I thought I´d give it ANOTHER go and see what happens. Maybe I´ll find time this month to reach my reading goal. Or, maybe I´ll invest in an AC before I do anything else. Let´s see what the future brings.

Prepare yourselves, dear Padawans… August´s reading list might knock you over just like it did with me when I created it.

August Reading List

Hush, Hush ( Hush, Hush #1 ) – Becca Fitzpatrick

Hush Hush

I´m light years too late, I know. But I saw this in a bookstore on vacation and it sounded better than any other book I had in my arms. And the angel on the cover looks like he´s in pain. Not that I get off on that but I do sense that there´s some sort of battle in the paranormal romance novel. That, or… He´s plucking his own feathers because he´s heartbroken. I´ll find out soon enough, won´t I? NOTE: Spoilers  Thoughts on this book are very much welcomed in the comments below.

We, The Drowned – Carsten Jensen

We the drowned

A book recommendation from the lovely Aurora Librialis. I love the cover. I love the synopsis. The whole package looks like one big fat adventurous page turner, something I´m in desperate need of. Can´t wait to get this one started!

All Your Perfects – Colleen Hoover

All your perfects

I can´t have a reading list that doesn´t at least include one romance novel, right? I was a little hesitant about this one. I´m a fan of Colleen Hoover´s older works. Her newer novels ( basically anything published after Maybe Someday ) weren´t for me. When I heard about `All Your Perfects`I wasn´t doing cartwheels but after reading the synopsis I decided to give another Co-Ho book a try. I´m a sucker for troubled marriage romances. Let´s hope this won´t be as disappointing as the previous books were ( for me!!).

The Surface Breaks – Louise O´Neill

The Surface Breaks

The cover is something gorgeous! And, HELLO! Mermaids! What more can I want? What more can I say? Nothing, because I haven´t finished it, yet. I like reading this one while enjoying a foot spa outside (NOTE:  I call my pool a foot spa ).

My lovies, that´s it for this month. I may, or may not, add a few books from my dusty TBR list and include a few reads from Netgalley. Let´s see how that´ll work, if at all.

What are you reading this month? Share your titles and authors and feel free to pressure me into reading one of the books you´ve already read and loved!

Much book love,

Morgana ❤

July Bookish Review

Is it me, or is the year passing by way too fast? I could have sworn yesterday was still June.

Confusing as Hell when you lose track of time so easily.

Anyway- It´s been a highly uneventful month for me. Besides hiding in a dark house and skillfully avoiding any unnecessary movement, I managed to not sweat while reading. Wanna know my secret? Position 2 fans infront of you ( one for your face and the other for your feet ) and let them run on high speed. You´re welcome.

There´s no guarantee that your hair will ever look the same afterwards, but… We´re here to read without sweating. Not to win any beauty contests.

As for the books I´ve read: Well, I can´t shine with a glorious accomplished reading list.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshawthe wicked deep

All in all- Not a bad read. But also not one of my favorites. I loved certain parts of the story and appreciated the setting but the end didn´t convince me. Review for The Wicked Deep

Belle: A Retelling Of Beauty And The Beast by Cameron Dokey Belle

Again, not an all too shabby read. The details were fabulous and the writing was right up my alley. If only the pacing and timing were more balanced then I would have found this retelling fairy tale perfect.  Read my review for Belle here

On Dublin Street ( On Dublin Street #1 ) by Samantha Young On Dublin Street

A reread I decided I needed because I wasn´t in the mood to start anything new. This romance is what I like to consider a “golden oldie” because it´s… an older read. `On Dublin Street` was published 2012 and I´ve been rereading this book since 2013. The power of great romances! I´ve been a long time fan of the author and inhale almost everything the author publishes. Click here to read my review! ❤

Running Out Of Air by K. T. Swiftrunning out of air

A Netgalley pick. It´s smart, witty, sassy and complex. While I enjoyed this read I did a few issues with the protagonist. But otherwise, an entertaining read. ( To be reviewed )

Eight Goodbyes by Christine BraeEight Goodbyes

A slightly frustrating read with an even more frustrating Heroine.

My review for `Eight Goodbyes` by Christine Brae can be read here.

The Birthday List by Devney PerryThe birthday list

A touching romance without the tacky romantic clichés! I loved this book and the author´s writing. Will definitely check this author´s other works out. Check out my review for this fab romance here.

Of course, I had a few more books I wanted to read & review but those will have to wait until either the heat disappears or until I find more quality reading time.

So, it´s Buh- bye July! It´s been a lazy treat! Time to welcome August with open arms.

Did you have a good or less exciting reading month? What´s your favorite July read? Let´s chat. xx

Much book love,

Mug Monday & Scheduled Posts Talk

Mug

Snoopy. A gift from the husbutt

Bookish Subject

Scheduled Posts

Happy Mug Monday! Today is all about Scheduled posts!

Ever wondered how book blogging would be if we´d schedule posts weeks ahead?

Let me tell you something….

I´m one of those bloggers who´s not only excellent at winging book blogging, I´m also a notorious panic post uploader. What´s a panic post uploader, you ask?

Panic post

That´s me. Always sitting here thinking “Oh, I have a Mug Monday post in a few.” and then giving myself a small heart attack because in a few turns out to be should have been posted an hour ago.

Weeks ago, while sweating like a group of nuns at a cucumber farm, I thought about my whole uploading system. My conclusion: My uploading system is shit.

I needed a new plan. I needed to find a way to be more organized.

So, the question is: How do I become more organized and balanced? How can I optimize my upload system for myself? With 4 uploads a week I should be able to make things more easy.

And it was when the first sweat beads dropped from my eyelids when the idea hit me.

What if I were to start scheduling posts? But not like, for 1-3 days ahead of time. More like, 3-4 weeks! Sounds lovely and too good to be true. Definitely worth a shot, though.

For whatever reasons, I was never good at scheduling posts. But now… Now I´m scheduling the life out of me and enjoying every minute of it.

How do I do it? How is it possible to schedule so far ahead? Easy.

Some of you may have noticed… I have ( as many other book bloggers have as well ) a themed post system where I pick certain days of the week and publish certain topics on the chosen days. For example:

Monday: Mug Monday & Book Talk

Tuesday: Reviews

Wednesday: Something fun / to discuss

Thurday: Something to discuss / something fun

(Posts for certain days can vary, depending on my private schedule.)

Not too complicated, right? In a month, I can upload 4 Mug Monday topics, 4 book reviews, 4 fun posts and 4 discussion posts. That´s truly not much and totally manageable. AND (!!!) I´m not overwhelming my followers with blog posts.

Add that up and I have 16 posts a month. For me, that´s more than enough.

Right now, I´m on a lazy break until September!

I bet you´re asking yourself what I´m doing now that I have created so much time for myself?

Well….. Aside from taking my sweet precious time working on more blog posts I´ve returned to a few long forgotten hobbies of mine.

  • Watching Johnny Depp clips on Youtube ( because I´m obsessed )
  • Replying to comments on time
  • Reading
  • Continuing my DIY projects
  • Watching TV
  • Talking to the husbutt ( which has shocked him on a few occasions. Poor guy just stared at me when I asked what movie we wanted to watch together )

The moral of this post? It’s AWESOME to schedule posts. A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Scheduled posts make life so much easier.

And before I forget about this week´s Mug Monday again…. Here´s another favorite of mine. My Snoopy mug ❤ If I were a cartoon I´d definitely be Snoopy. I´d even go so far and say that he´s my comic spirit animal.

mug monday snoop

And behind the mug is me… watching Johnny Depp clips on Youtube * squeak *.  Why? Because I can. 🙂 ❤

Do you schedule your posts ahead of time or you do just randomly upload your posts? Let´s talk!

That was it for this week. I hope you all enjoyed Mug Monday & Scheduled Post Talk.

Share the book love!

Warm hugs,

Morgana ❤
