Book Review- Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern

Book Description

Sometimes you have to look at life in a whole new way…

From the bestselling author of PS, I Love You comes a delightfully enchanting novel about what happens when two people who are meant to be together just can’t seem to get it right.

Rosie and Alex are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, their relationship gets closer by the day, until Alex gets the news that his family is leaving Dublin and moving to Boston. At 17, Rosie and Alex have just started to see each other in a more romantic light. Devastated, the two make plans for Rosie to apply to colleges in the U.S.

She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She’s pregnant by a boy she’d gone out with while on the rebound from Alex.

Her dreams for college, Alex, and a glamorous career dashed, Rosie stays in Dublin to become a single mother, while Alex pursues a medical career and a new love in Boston. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel, structured as a series of clever e-mails, letters, notes, and a trail of missed opportunities, Alex and Rosie find out that fate isn’t done with them yet.

My Thoughts

Talk about missed opportunities! Sheesh. I´m sweating just buy thinking of this story.

I can easily say that this book is one of the most frustrating books I have ever read. And I loved it! What a cute read! It´s kind of a flappy romance with a serious vibe in between.

A wonderful story that had me from the get-go and I couldn´t think of any other chick-lit better than `Love, Rosie`by Cecelia Ahern.Love Rosie

The storyline is simple yet it´s packed with so many heavy emotions. I was able to see the characters faces and feel their inner turmoil.

And…. what I love most ( besides everything else, of course ) is the fact that this story isn´t too far-fetched from reality. I´ve seen couples / friends slip into the friendzone although they didn´t belong there. Reading about it in a book, though, is a complete differen´t matter. It´s more personal, more emotional. I was a peeping Tom, shocked, stunned, frustrated and so in love!

The characters were a joy. So much of a joy that I felt the need to hit them over the head with a frying pan sometimes.

Rosie made my `fav book chick` list. Awkward, sweet, quirky. Just overall a lovable character.

Alex, although it felt like his character drifted off the mark a little, was also great.

I believe it was a fabulous idea to let a reader accompany the two characters from a very young age up to their middle ages. That way a reader has the opportunity to see more, feel more, understand more of what´s going on. It´s a slow build up with colorful emotions, with the main emotions being frustration and angst. I´ll tell you why:

Yes. I, despite my endless love for the main characters I still felt beyond frustrated with them. I mean- they clearly had a massive communication problem going on and that left me, as a reader, wanting to play the middle-man and knock some sense into Alex and Rosie because the angst was, at times, alot to handle.

I kept thinking „ Okay, now´s the time…. Do it! NOW, damn it! What the hell are you waiting for? The weather isn´t going to get any better if you keep this shit up! DO SOMETHING! I´m not getting any younger and neither ARE YOU GUYS!“

I went through a few sessions of face palming, sighing, tossing the book aside, went through a bottle of wine and nail-biting ( which I normally don´t do). That´s how frustrating this book was for me. But that´s the purpose of a good book. To evoke all kinds of emotions from it´s readers.

And just as I was about to give up on everything… it happened! My special moment I was waiting ages for! The moment that sealed the deal for me.

I had a winner in my hands. A great, timeless romance I will forever cherish.

When I found out that the story was turned into a movie ( yes, I´m a hermit and hardly leave the house and hardly watch TV, don´t judge.Lol) I was out of it with joy and then had mixed feelings because it dawned on me that every single book – to – movie adaptions was just awful. So, I refused to watch the movie at first.

I have no will power, whatsoever.

I watched the movie. I was NOT disappointed. In fact- I was just as in love as I was when I first read the book! The casting was spot on ( besides Lily Collins. I don´t like her much ). All the feels from the book were felt while watching the movie. Brilliant!

Of course, the blogger side of me is dead-set on recommending the book, only. But in this case, I recommend reading the book AND watching the movie. Both are fully worth it. Why? Because it´s a lovestory. Who can resist a good romance? Who can resist watching Sam Claflin and his irresistable smile and listening to his sexy english accent?!

Would I reread this book? I already have. And I´ll do it over and over again.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely.

The Cover – 5 stars ( What´s there to bitch about? Nothing. It´s an eye catcher and definitely different from all the other books I have on my shelf.)

The Story – 5 stars ( The author certainly didn´t reinvent the wheel but the story was beautifully told. It´s a romance. A proper romance. )

The Characters – 4 stars ( Frustrating. Both of them. But 100% lovable. And relatable. )

My emotional state after finishing this read – My emotions were shot after I finished `Love, Rosie`.

I´m giving `Love, Rosie` by Cecelia Ahern 5 out of 5 stars

Review- Dirty Dix (#1 Hard Love Romance) by Monica James

Book Description

I knew she was bad news when she walked into my office, but I just couldn’t help myself…

Filthy, sexy and full of surprises, Juliet is so hot she has me on fire. I’ve met my match and I can’t help going back for more.

Then there’s Madison… she’s sweet, funny and awakens in me a fierce need to protect her.

But I don’t do relationships. I don’t usually do the same woman twice.

Juliet and Madison: Two very different women have got me completely hooked.

Who will I choose?

I know who I should choose, but I never said I was the hero of this story, or even the good guy. And besides, who wants to be good, when it feels so good being bad?

My tale isn’t for the faint-hearted. If you’re game, strap yourself in and expect the unexpected. But don’t say I didn’t warn you…

My Thoughts

Monica James is my GO – TO author. This woman has her writing down to a T. It all started out when I read her very first novel `I Surrender` a few years back. Now, many published books later, I´m sitting here and feeling as happy as any reader could feel.

What can I say about this book?

`Dirty Dix` ( Book #1 in the Hard Love Romance ) is a fun, exciting and intriguing read that´ll put you on a ride you´ll never forget. In fact, this story is so addictive it makes it´s readers long for more.Dirty dix

The story is brilliant. Easy going and playful at first and then everything slowly becomes complicated.

New Yorks top psychiatrist, Dr. Dix Mathews, drowns in two women who are both toxic to his own health.

Both women couldn´t be more opposite from one another and Dr. Dix finds himself in a position he shouldn´t have been in the first place.

What to do, what to do? Dr. Dix is screwed one way or another. Or is he?

This book  reminds me of a time when I dated 2 guys at the same time. I was 16 back then and everything went well before both were standing in my mom´s livingroom. The one guy had a bouquet in his hands and the other wore a confused look on his face. I decided to bail. Crawl my way out of the house through my bedroom window and make an epic escape. But I got caught by my mom outside ( I was a terrible teenager).

I wish Dix had a window to make a grande escape but he wasn´t so fortunate ( neither was I, to be honest. I had to deal with both and ended up alone until I dated my husband 3 years later. What a miserable time!).

ANYWAYS…. Dix.

I loved Dix. His character was something special. A doc who helped others for a living got caught up in his own little personal hell. What´s not to love? Reading his parts brought so much satisfaction. The poor bastard struggled. He was a professional with a broken heart who ignored the rules. And with every step that beautiful man took he unintentionally dug his own grave deeper and deeper. He was fighting an emotional war with his desires, his own personal addiction.

Dix and Juliet were a match made in sex heaven. Dix and Madison were a match made in relationship heaven.

Who will he pick? Both? Neither? Will anyone find some sort of happiness in this book? You´ll have to find that one out for yourself.

All I can tell you is that this story was so good I couldn´t put it down. And the cliffhanger ending… I saw it coming. I truly did. I just hoped it wouldn´t happen. But it did and now I´m left with the awkward feeling of not knowing what´ll happen next until I can get my greedy claws on book #2, `Wicked Dix`.

An enticing, sexy and hot read!

The Cover – 4 stars ( I´m not such a fan of a buffed torso on a book cover but I am a fan of a white shirt and black tie. There´s something sexy about that. And the colors are great.)

The Story – 5 stars ( Way cool. Brings back so many ugly but now funny memories.)

The Characters – 5 stars ( Dix, Madison, Juliet, Finch and Hunter… What a great lot!)

My emotional state after finishing this read – Excited. I just can´t wait to find out what happens next!

I´m giving `Dirty Dix` ( Book #1 Hard Love Romance) by Monica James 5 out of 5 stars.

Black Swan Affair – K. L. Kreig

Book Description

I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

Shep.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy f*cking family.

My Thoughts

I´ve been having chest pain ever since I started this book. Just thinking about the story makes me rub the spot where my heart is.

Jesus Christ. Holy Fucking Hell….. * wipe sweat off forehead *

`Black Swan Affair` by K.L. Kreig is by far one of the best love triangle stories I´ve read. I thought `Thoughtless` by S.C. Stephens was emotional torture. Even the `Avoiding`series by K. A. Linde was an angsty emotional catastrophe. But this one…. I´m so exhausted and emotionally beaten.

Why can´t all books be like this one?!

I seriously need a full week, in my bedroom, with a box of tissues and a crate of wine just so I can recover properly. Damn this author and her ability to screw with my feelings!

A love triangle. Brothers and one woman. Both love her. One brother makes a mistake. She marries the brother she´s not in love with and the whole world becomes one clusterfuck. I´m telling you- this shit is soul wrecking!

100% unpredictable. 100% full of angst. 100% frustrating. 100% GIVE ME SOME WINE TO DULL THE PAIN I`M FEELING FOR THE CHARACTERS, DAMN IT!

Okay, technically, the core of the story isn´t new. Love triangles have been around the block and alot of those types of stories weren´t well told. `Black Swan Affair´ was beyond fantastic. I was sweating bullets from the first until the last page, hoping for a miracle to happen so the characters suffering would finally end.

This is one of those stories where you want the Heroine to find her happiness but you also demand for both Heros to have their happy ever after, too. * sob * Throughout the whole story it´s clear what Maverick ( Heroine) wanted, or who she wanted. But was what / who she wanted good for her or was what / who she needed the better option? Mav´s life was a hot mess. I can´t really say if she acted correctly because if I were in her position I would have hidden under the bed until everyone disappeared.

Both brothers ( Killian and Keal ) were great. I mean- I loved both! How was that possible? I usually love to hate one person involved in a love triangle but the Shepard brothers wouldn´t allow it. * sigh *

2/3 into the story I was okay with whoever Maverick picked. That´s how exhausted I was. And in the end…. I was happy with the choice she made. In fact- I was so happy I opened a bottle of wine just to celebrate the fact that I and the characters were put out of our misery.

K. L. Kreig did a number on me and for that I can´t thank the author enough. Good stories are hard to find these days. Especially ones that are fabulously written, like this one is. High class storytelling.

Listen up! If you´re looking for the whole package ( angst, devastation, love, loss, great sex, frustrating moments, etc. etc.) then you need to drop whatever you´re doing and read this story.

I sure as Hell will be giving this one a re-read and a re-re-read and I´ll never get tired of it.

The Cover – 3 stars ( The image didn´t grab my attention. The title did, though. )

The Story – 5+ stars ( Blooming Hell. Fucking awesome. A romance that will forever haunt me.)

The Characters – 5+ stars ( Wonderful characters. Just perfect. My favorite is Kael. There´s some serious fangirling going on from my part when it comes to him.)

My emotional state after finishing this read– I´m so fucking tired but 100% satisfied. I need a break before I can start anything new.

I´m giving `Black Swan Affair`, by the amazing K. L. Kreig, 5 out of 5 outstanding stars!

Please, do yourselves a favor and read this book. If you´re into frustrating love triangles then just click here and buy the story. I swear on all that´s fluffy….you won´t regret it.

UnWritten – Chelsea M. Cameron

Book Description

Children’s librarian by day. Romance novelist by night.
British single father.
Someone else is writing this love story…

Blair Walton isn’t your average curvaceous tattooed children’s librarian. She’s also one half of bestselling romance author, Scarlet Rose. Along with her BFF Raine, she spends her nights writing books so steamy, she’s afraid they would shock her Southern conservative grandmother to death . . . if she knew about them. That’s why she and Raine write in secret.

On deadline for their latest book and out of ideas, Raine suggests (demands) that Blair find a guy and “do some research”. Declan Bennet has all the qualifications: He’s British, looks fabulous in a suit, has glorious blue eyes and gets bonus points for being an amazing single dad to his adorable son, Drake. But what starts out as a research project quickly turns into something much more. And Blair’s not the only one with secrets.

My Thoughts

`UnWritten` by author Chelsea M. Cameron was an okay read. If I´m honest- I love the book cover more than I do the story. ( Gotta love to color combo )

It´s strange because this is the type of romance I prefer to read; Simple, smart, smooth. Yet, it wasn´t enough for me to go overboard ( and I´m usually the one who get´s overly excited about a romance).

The characters were all fine. Each very interesting figures but they lacked a certain spark.

The only way I can describe my feelings towards this read is to compare the story to newspaper reading. You know when you sit at the table and flip the paper open and scan the topics? The feeling of not being overly impressed but still kind of interested? You rarely have a moment where you sit there, stunned speechless by a topic but you still continue to read. That´s how reading this book was for me.

Still, `UnWritten` was okay. It tampered my need for the lovey-dovey, if only for a short while.

Maybe it´s just me. Meeh * wave off * Who am I kidding? Of course, it´s me. I wasn´t feeling this story as much as I hoped I would and that´s why I´m sure someone else might. Give it a go and see for yourself. Although- you might want to get the kindle version because the paperback costs $ 15.99. That´s alot of money for 345 pages.
(NOTE- this book was in one of my Bookworm Boxes I ordered. I didn´t pick this book deliberately )

The Cover – 5 stars ( Beautiful. ❤ )

The Story – 3 stars ( It was nice. But nice doesn´t give me a bookhangover. Nice doesn´t make me want to get on my husband´s nerves. Nice just doesn´t cut it.)

The Characters – 3 stars ( Blair and Declan- a nice odd couple. Great pairing but not enough spark.)

My emotional state after finishing this read- Indifferent.

I´m giving `Rewritten`, by Chelsea M. Cameron, 3 out of 5 stars.
