Mug Monday & Involuntary Blog Break

Book – Split by J.B. Salsbury

Mug – Ikea. Black.

Today´s Topic- Involuntary Blog Break Due To Life

Welcome to today´s Mug Monday feature!

I´ve got some good news and some bad news. I think I´ll start with the bad news and get that out of my way before gushing over the good news.

The Bad News

I´m forced to go on a blog break. It´s not my fault. I didn´t ask for this. But… I can´t see any other way than to let my laptop collect dust for a short period of time.

That means I won´t be responding to comments unless I can find a moment to sneak away from the event. Pre – scheduled posts will pop up but I won´t actually have time to get back with you wonderful bunch.

Why? Well, it´s because of the good news.

The Good News

My brother, Mason, is getting married this Saturday. Yes. I´ve just revealed another small tidbit from my personal life. I have a brother. One of 3. It´s the youngest who decided it was time to tie the knot.

Mason- Brother and soon to be groom with me, the small evil-looking one on the right.

The little turd who once ran around pretending to be a Power Ranger and  is finally settling down.

And guess what? I am the best man ( or, best sister) !

I admit- I thought he´d pick one of his tree hugging friends. When he called ( which he never does ) and announced the good news I was actually stoked and immediately agreed without thinking what my job would entail.

Turns out that my job as the best man has me being a part-time wedding planner and therapist for the groom to be.

And since last year he´s come up with new jobs for me to deal with as `best man`.

As of now I´m in charge of:

  • giving a speech ( I´ve got 4 more days to whip one up and 4 days to overcome my fear of speaking in front of a crowd )
  • organize a few games to play at the wedding ( again, I have to speak to more than 5 people. It´s going to be HORRIFIC )
  • talking to the DJ  ( I can deal with the DJ )
  • and entertaining family for a week at my house ( because my brother has confused my house with a hotel  ( It´s going to get really crowded in my house )

Besides dressing the husbutt, the girls and myself, going to the hairdressers and getting my nails done ( which I also never do because they always break off ) and catering the guests at my house I have absolutely no time to get some reading or blog stuff done.

My schedule is packed.

Have I mentioned that weddings can be stressful? I haven´t? Well, they are.

That is why I must bid you all a temporary farewell.

Should you notice me commenting on blog posts from others or replying to comments on my pre-  scheduled reviews then know that I´ve managed to find a bathroom far from anyone and locked myself in there.

If I don´t respond or give any other signal that I´m still alive…. don´t worry. I´ll be back on track my next week´s Mug Monday feature.

My deepest apologies for the luke warm Mug Monday  feature.

mug monday m

I have tin foil in my hair and the fumes from the hair color aren´t really allowing me to be overly creative today.

The ebook `Split` is supposed to be a romance but I haven´t spotted one yet. The mug is from Ikea and it´s black. Again, my deepest apologies for the bla feature. Blame my brother ( because that always works. LOL )

Okay. That´s it. I have 6 more minutes until I have to wash this stuff out of my hair and then I gotta get to that best man´s speech I´m dreading.

I hope you have a lovely day!

Share the book love!

Many hugs,

Morgana xoxo

10 Funny But Painfully True Book Memes

Welcome back to Book Memes, y´all!

There´s been an awful lot of book meme posts making their rounds on social media lately. Some posted by authors and some by book bloggers.

But what I´ve noticed is that nearly all humorous book memes hold a certain painful truth to them.

Reading those wise graphic quotes is so bittersweet. You want to laugh because they´re actually really funny but then a second later you realize you either have a serious problem and need lots of therapy or it dawns on you that you´re even more weird than you thought you were. The truth book memes carry is terrifying.

Still… no one said enjoying funny book memes was a crime, right?

Reading List- Febuary 2018

Alas! My Febuary reading list.

With Febuary being my second most busy month I´ve decided to keep my reading list a little smaller than I usually would.

But then again- Febuary is my birth month and I can´t NOT treat myself with just 2 books. Either go big or go home, right? Yes, I´m absolutely right.

Here´s my reading list for Febuary 2018!

feb reads.jpg

1. A Shadow Bright And Burning – Jessica Cluess  ( Fantasy/YA )

2. Forgetting You, Forgetting Me – Monica James   ( Romance )

3. Glitter – Aprilynne Pike   ( YA, Fantasy, Dystopia)

4. The One – John Marrs   (Thriller)

5. A Crack In Everything – L. H. Cosway   (Romance)

6. Prelude – Auden Dar   ( Romance )

What a chaotic mix of books! Some were recommendations from friends, others I found while snooping around on social media.

I can´t wait to start these and share my thoughts on each of them. Let´s hope  none of these end up on my dreadful TBR list.

Much love,

Morgana xoxo

Review- Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Book Description

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart .

My Thoughts

A good read, but not something I would go nuts over.

I hate to say this- It´s another bold duplicate of past popular stories I´ve read before.

The only difference was the writing style, which was (in my opinion) rather great.

Victoria Aveyard´s storytelling ability is remarkable and so catchy… I really had no troubles what-so-ever with anything. The complete story was well-balanced.

So what was my problem with the story? Well, for one- I´m not a huge fan of dystopian. I have to be completely convinced before I even go near anything sci-fi-ish / dystopian book. The synopsis sounded great, though, and the hundreds of instagram features convinced me enough. so I thought I´d give it a go. And the story was…okay. But not okay enough for me to give it a full rating.

`Red Queen` ( Red Queen #1) by Victoria Aveyard wasn´t my cup of tea.Red Queen

I liked everything except nothing tickled me senseless. Nothing about the story flashed me nor did I feel the moments that were supposed to be nail-bite-worthy. I didn´t like the story enough.

Maybe the reason for that were the main characters and how they were portrayed. Mare / Mareena ( Heroine ) felt an awful lot like Katniss from The Hunger Games. Not a complete unlikable character but there were definitely moments when I was thinking „Okay Katniss, time to reel it in. Let Mare take over again“ . Mare was strong, foolish and in sometimes even a little annoying.

Mare, the Red, became some sort of a prodigy. Not human nor Silver. Something in between. Something everyone feared because no one understood what Mare was but they knew she was powerful, more than some of the other Silvers who carried special abilities ( and there were quite a few Silvers who had some badass moves ). But then again, the Silvers knew what Mare was. They used her. Tricked her. Played her and everyone else. By „they“ I mean the Royal family and by „everyone else“ I´m referring to the many Silver Houses, Silver folk and Reds.

Yes. The `Red Queen` is political. Lots of mind games, upholding etiquette, keeping secrets, lies, spies and everything else. And in the middle of politics you can even spot a romance. It´s subtle, but it´s there and it´s also good.

The story as a whole is more of a „this is an unfair world and I´m going to play the chosen one and try to make everything better again.“ story. Right the wrongs and create peace.

As I´ve said- It´s a good story but not really what I was hoping for.

`Red Queen` is the first installment in the Red Queen series. I think it´s safe for me to say that I won´t be continuing the series. For me- The story ends with book #1. There isn´t enough interest on my part.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I would. I can see many YA, dystopian fans gushing over this story. It has a strong Heroine and great Hero(s).

Would I reread this book? Probably not.

The Cover – 5 stars ( Absolutely brilliant. Love the crown & blood and the stark contrast of the white and red. Very eye catchy.)

The Story – 3 stars ( an okay read.)

The Characters – 3 stars ( Practically perfect but a little too similar to other popular fictional figures. Cersei= the Queen, Mare= Katniss, etc. )

My emotional state after finishing this read: Indifferent.

I´m giving `Red Queen` ( Red Queen #1) by Victoria Aveyard 3 out of 5 stars.
