Educational Books

Hi and welcome back to another Mug Monday!

While the book blog universe has been a little quiet I decided to use the slow days to catch up on other books I love. Educational books. History & Science books, if you like.

Yeah. I´m secretly a nerd. SURPRISE!

Well, I´m not a classic nerd. I´m not one of those Hipster nerds, either. I´m just a normal 36 year old who loves to wear sweats and hates her bra who ALSO happens to have a great appreciation for knowledge.

So, it´s not all about romance for me. Reading Contemporary romances is just a nice escape from reality. I consider fiction as my “fun” reads.

Reading History and Science books… Well, that´s my passion. I can spend hours studying the past and learning about the many things that have shaped our lives today. I can sit on one spot until my ass becomes numb reading psychology, chemistry and biology books. I want to know what makes people tick, what made people tick and how the world functioned hundreds and thousands of years ago.

Mug Monday Blue

Does that make me a nerd? Not really. Just shows I love to read. ❤

As of now, I´m reading a wonderful book about books that changed history. Funnily enough, that´s also the title of the book. `Books That Changed History` by Kathryn Hennessy.

A brilliant read that gives insight on many of the wonderful editions that molded and formed the world as we know it. I´m in book love!

Without any hesitation I´d recommend this book to anyone who´s interested in history.

Now, let´s get back to the nerding bit.

It truly is something fabulous when you´re hungry for knowledge. But there´s also a downside to loving history and science. When you read as many educational reads ( I´ll just call my fav´s that because I´m too lazy to type out history & science ) you also know things. Many things. Can you guess what I´m referring to?

I´m a avid reader and a conversation killer.

Believe it or not ( Okay, fine. Believe it. Lol ) I´m the worst person at any family gatherings and other parties. A buzz kill. Husbutt even told me once that I´m like the music DJs play when it´s time to close a club.

And he´s right. But I can´t help myself! It´s an obsession I don´t want to control. If I´m not reading romances I´m reading educational books. And if I´m not reading at all then that only means I´m occupied with the kids, being a wife to someone who´s afraid of tall grass, and working in a lab. The only thing left is the History channel.

So, yes. Reading history and science books is wonderful but also less cool because you know many MANY things lots of people aren´t interested in. Husbutt tries to act interested but fails. The kids ask a question and then interrupt me mid answer with some other random question. My own mother hangs up on me when I start talking about how the british monarchy lost it´s power. ( Well, I did that on purpose because I was busy. I knew my mom would hang up on me. lol. Best tactic ever! )

It´s a curse to know things. It´s also a blessing because… I know things. Lol.

So, there you have it. I love history & science more than I love romance. ❤

What about you? Is there anything you enjoy reading besides the usual? What genre do you love that no one knows of?

Let´s chat! ( Don´t worry, I won´t bore you with anything I know. Lol )

Happy Mug Monday!

So, what has this little book blogger been up to since her last Mug Monday post? Ha! I´ve been procrastinating. Alright. Fine. If you want to know the truth- I´ve been physically lazy and mentally working overtime.

Ever since my short break I´ve had time to think. Of course, I´ve read a few books, too, but that´s secondary at the moment.

I´ve noticed a shift in my reading tastes. I´m not sure if this has something to do with the lack of good romances being published or if it´s just a phase. I cannot stomach another sappy love story.

Don´t get me wrong. I still love the romance genre. I also still make a beeline towards the women’s fiction aisle in a bookstore and I still search for new romance titles online in hopes for finding something good ( See? I´ve even lowered my book standards ).  But do I find anything worth reading? Not at the moment. It´s as if authors are bored with the genre and just publish romances for the heck of it. That´s probably not true. But give a girl a break. Book hunting is exhausting at the moment. Especially when it´s scorching 35°C ( 95°F ) outside.

So, this means a few things. I could:

a) Continue to tackle the TBR list

b) Wait for a miracle to happen

c) Move on

d) Visit Netgalley

e) Go on another creative break

f) Do garden work

g) Contact friends I promised I´d call… 2 months ago

I contacted the friends- I´m forgiven. I don´t need ANOTHER creative break. Garden work is the greatest punishment ever. My TBR list can kindly go to hell.  I cannot foresee any miracles happening soon so that leaves me with Netgalley.

Netgalley. It´s been a while since I last stepped foot on Book Catalogue Land. Well, it´s been exactly 14 hours ( before that, 3 years ). Since romance isn´t feeding my needs I decided to check out what´s available on Netgalley.

I was successful. Greedy and successful. SO MANY BOOKS. So many non romances. And now, I have loads of Netgalley reads, a giant TBR list and the books I got while on vacation.

Sometimes I really do believe I have fruit missing from my fruit bowl.

Well, at least I have books to read, right? My worries for the romance genre are currently put to rest for the time being. I´ll be occupied with mermaids and pirates, kingdoms and witches now.

Speaking of new books and reading… I just finished this beauty ( pun intended ).

belle

`Belle` ( A retelling of Beauty and the Beast ) by author Cameron Dokey. Did I love, like, enjoy or hate it? Well, I´ll tell you that I fell in love with the cover. The rest of my thoughts will be available in the upcoming review.

The mug is nothing special. Just your typical IKEA mug that probably won´t last long ( they never do in my house ). The cold chocolate milk topped with whipped cream was divine, though.

That´s it for this week, lovies. Now you know I´ve dug my own grave and will now endure a massive and glorious reading marathon.

Hope you enjoy your Monday!

Don´t forget to share the book ❤

Warm hugs,

Morgana <3<3

Happy Mug Monday!

The `Reading Outside Season` has officially opened!

Well, for me, at least. You see, it´s not easy finding the right day for an outside reading session. Where I live, we deal with 365 days of pure Autumn or Spring weather.

If it´s not raining, it´s windy. If It´s not raining or windy then it´s usually dull outside. Temperatures rank from low to high ( depending on the season ) but keep a steady murky sky color.

Over here, a heavy gray clouded sky belongs to our weather norm. That´s our usual. Our everyday normal.

There´s no chance to read a book outdoors because I´m always afraid of getting wet or being blown away by pseudo tornadoes.

And God help us when summer decides to show it´s face. We suffer from unimaginable 42 °C heat and wish we were never born ( while staring at a gray sky). Summers are icky and humid.

I´m not one to complain, though. I have a brutal sun allergy that keeps me locked indoors on most sunny days. I think the only true way to survive my sun allergy is to eat sunblocker. It all starts from within, amirite?

Germany has weird weather. It´s a simple fact. If you thought the UK weather is dreary… you haven´t seen what Germany has to offer. Compared to this place, Great Britain is an island of sunshine.

Now that you´re well acquainted with the weather structure from Germany it´s time to praise the rare beautiful days we get. When the weather Gods give us a good day, then you better drop everything you´re doing and get out to appreciate the sun.

Today was one of those magical sunny days without rain, wind, snow, heat. Can you believe it? I sure as Hell couldn´t. Not until I took a step outside and felt the first sun rays on my skin.

You cannot imagine how fast I acted. I made my hot chocolate, grabbed my kindle ( after removing a 3 inch dust coat from it ) and practically flew out onto the back porch. I yelled for someone to bring me the comforter I forgot and VOILA!

mug M

And I read. I took my sweet time to soak in the warmth of the Spring sun. I was outside for hours, reading my latest received ARC, listening to birds chirp and cars driving my in the background.

My reading session was only interrupted once by some bike rider who chased a car, yelling “You stupid idiot! PULL OVER!” And by bike rider I don´t mean motorcycle. I´m refering to an actual bike. The sight was one to behold!

Needless to say – I tanked hours worth of fresh air, enjoyed the sun & my hot chocolate and nearly finished my ARC.

That definitely counts as a successful Monday!

As for tomorrow´s weather – The weather forcast said it would be a stormy week with rain showers.

Since I´ve become a pro at indoor reading…. I might as well suck it up and get back into the reading cave and wait for another rare, beautiful day.

The Mug –  I´m in love with the GreenGate Alice series. It looks a little nostalgic, a little shabby chic and definitely an eye catcher. I have that same mug in dark blue, mint, powder pink and baby blue.

The Tea Pot / Hot Chocolate Pot – What´s the point in calling a tea pot a tea pot if I don´t drink tea? My brilliant idea: Rename the tea pot into a hot cocoa pot. Problem solved. An IKEA purchase done not too long ago. I normally don´t need any kind of pots for drinks but I couldn´t resist buying this tea pot. It´s SO PRETTY! And does NOT fit in with anything in my kitchen.  ( wipes tears from laughing so hard )

The ARC –   I wish my hands weren´t tied and I could tell you about the book I received but… I can´t. Not yet, at least. All I can say is that it´s a rom-com and it´s good.. * Wnk *

That´s it for today. I hope you all have a wonderful start of the week! Share the book <3.

Much love,

Morgana ❤

Sadly enough- I hardly have energy to share any book related nonsense from my neck of the woods. I´m currently suffering from a mild cold and am doing my best to keep it mild and not let it turn into the flu from Hell ( like the last time..which was before Christmas). But I will say that each featured book in the image above is worth a read. Heart tugging romances!

I hope you all enjoy your day!

Much Love,

Morgana

Happy Monday, world!

Let´s get into book talk mode. Topic of the day?

Dark Romances and the nasty book hangovers attached.

Have you ever suffered from a book hangover? I have. Many others have. A book hangover is when you´ve finished a book and realize you aren´t ready to jump back into the real world. You´re still in the book world. For me- Book hangovers are a tad more dramatic. I´m a daydreamer. When I finish a book ( and I loved the story ) I tend to suffer for a super long time, thinking about the events characters went through, if I would have acted differently, etc. Weird, I know.  Thank God I don´t suffer all too often from those pesky feelings.

When I think of book hangovers I think of one author- J.M. Darhower.

mug JMDARHOWER

I remember, way back in the early blogging days, when rumor had it that J.M. Darhower would release a new novel, `Monster in His Eyes`. Soon the cover reveal made it´s rounds through social media and I… well, I was reluctant to read the book because of the hype readers/bloggers created. I avoid overly hyped books with a passion because I always get disappointed when my expectations are too high.

Needless to say- I ended up buying the paperback a month after the book released.

What I thought would be another sappy romance turned out to be an action packed, nerve wrecking, gut turning, dark ( with a hint of erotic ) romance. A romance about a hitman who´s on a mission but get´s distracted along the way and needs ( seriously NEEDS) to stay focused on his task(s). Let´s just say that Ignazio / Naz is one unique character who you will fall head over heels for, no matter what he does.

For me, reading this book felt like I was a fly on the wall, in a room filled with dangerous Italian mafia, spying.

Jesus! What a mindblow story.

`Monster in His Eyes` sucks you right in and grabs tight, leaving you no other choice but to keep reading. The writing style is a joy. The characters are fabulous. I just have so much love for this book, it´s not even healthy, anymore. ( said the book psycho who´s writing this article)

And the best part? There´s a second book to `Monster in His Eyes`.

`Torture to Her Soul` picks up right where `Monster in His Eyes` left off. Let me tell you…. It´s different but OH SO GOOD. I´m surprised I didn´t have heart problems while reading the second installment because it´s filled with action, love and lots of angsty moments. Let´s say the story is brutally romantic.

Then there´s book #3, `Target on Our Backs`. What can I say that I haven´t already said? It´s just a piece of wonderful mafia art. A nice conclusion to a fab story with great sub-characters worth remembering * wink wink * ( Check out the Scarlet Scars 1&2)

I loved it. You´ll love it. My girl ( and fellow book chica) Kristi from over at KristiesBook Knook loves it.

You should listen to the convo´s Kristi and I have over these books. They´re worth gold.

For me, J.M. Darhower is a Goddess of dark romances.

As for my mug: the poor thing slipped in the J.M. Darhower shadow.

I call my red mug the Mafia Cup. For one- It´s red. Red suits a dark read, especially when there´s violence involved. Plus my mafia mug can hold a decent amount of hot chocolate which allows me to enjoy a few chapters before having to refill.

I can´t recall what possessed me to buy a red mug, though. I´m usually more of a cold color type ( lots of gray, blue, purple, etc.). All I remember is walking through the GreenGate shop and thinking “Why the hell not?”, which isn´t really a good reason to buy something.  A knee-jerk purchase I haven´t regretted….yet.

That´s it for this week. I hope you enjoyed Mug Monday!

Until next week!
