Mug Monday – Impulse Book Purchase

Mug Feature:   The return of the Ikea mug, turquoise

Book Topic: Impulse book purchase

Hola and welcome to another wonderful Mug Monday!

October is around the corner, autumn is scratching at our doors… It´s officially time to get all those comfy comforters and fuzzy socks out. For me, it´s that time of year when I can drink my hot chocolate without having people giving me the “isn´t it too hot to drink that?” look.

Leg warmers, oversized sweaters, wool coats and long scarves are a thing now and I´m going to enjoy every minute of my non sweaty life.

Living the autumn dream

And since the weather has improved I decided to take the girls book shopping. Their book wish list already has a decent size so it was time to get a few second installments for my oldest and some new vampire reads for my youngest.

Remember the promise I made to myself a while back about tackling my TBR list before I buy anything new?

I guess that dream didn´t last long.

The girls started collecting their books while mommy decided to just check out the romance section. Worst. Idea. Ever.

I wanted to cry. I wanted to fall on my knees and weep in front of all the beautiful book covers and apologize for making such an idiotic promise ( Oooh, that sounds so dramatic, doesn´t it? Lol )

Anyway- The girls found their treasures. Me? I grabbed a book on the way to the register counter. Just like that. I saw something from the corner of my eye and thought of how convenient it is from the bookstore to torture me on my way out with a great cover.

My eyes did a quick book title scan. `Optimists Die First`. Sounded pretty good to me.

Turns out, I picked a romance! Ha! Who would have thought?!

optimists

I´m now the lucky owner of an impulse purchase.

Not my first impulse purchase. The same situation has happened quite often to me.

It´s pretty risky to blindly pick a book and buy it while on the run. There´s a 50 / 50 % chance of the book being completely shitty. But then again, readers have the same chances with books they´ve heard / read about before purchase.

I like the mystery of not exactly knowing what I´ve bought. Having no expectations what – so – ever is more liberating than having read the synopsis and testimonials before purchase.

Fingers crossed that my impulse purchase is also a 5 star read!

How about you guys? Are you victims of impulse book shopping or would you rather go the safe route? Let´s chat.

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday. xx

Mug Monday – Mug Gifts

Welcome, my dear Padawans, to another wonderful Mug Monday!

I´m not going to start on how wonderful it is to be back because even I can´t stand to waste another moment moping over the flu from Hell and telling you how boring it was to do nothing but chill. Life was boring- Now it´s not. Let´s get on with it, shall we?

Guess what this chici´s been doing while getting back on track? YES!

I´ve managed to get some reading done. Some much-needed and much welcomed reading!

And it felt good to be able to dive into a story again. What I read, you ask? Well, I managed to finished `Church.` by Stylo Fantome… That one practically killed me. I almost DNF´ed the book around 30%. I pulled through, though, and finished the damn book. ( review will follow shortly ).

Then I spotted an unfinished read from a few weeks back. `Tattered`by Devney Perry. I think I found myself a new favorite author. One I´ll be stalking at the RARE London 2019 book signing event in September.

And in my moments of silent reading the husbutt came home with a little gift for me. I admit… I always feel anxious when he says the words “Honey, I got something for you.” because he´s the type of guy who gifts me a screwdriver and claims it´s specially made for women ( insert the loudest sigh known to mankind ).

But this time… it wasn´t another screwdriver. He did the unexpected and…

…bought me a mug.

mug monday snoopy m

A SNOOPY MUG! Be still, my beating heart!

A snoopy mug with the letter M on it! * faint *

Can I love this man any more than I already do? I guess so. * gg *

So, it said on the package that the M stands for magic. To me, the M stands for so much more. It stands for….

  • My blog
  • My name
  • The Mmmm sound I make when drinking hot chocolate
  • More books
  • More book love

For my kids the M stands for Mommy ( obviously ). For the husbutt… the M stands for More death glares ( because he obviously hasn´t seen enough of mine ).

I don´t really care about all of that, though. I got a snoopy mug with the letter M. And it´s in purple. So much positivity from a simple gift… ❤

Now the only thing missing is: a 5 star read! People, I´m desperate for a mind-blowing story! Let´s hope I manage to find one in the next days / weeks. Finger´s crossed.

Unless some of you have some AWESOME, TOTALLY MIND BLOWING, OFF THE CHARTS FANTASTIC 5 star book recommendations for me that you can name from the top of your hat…. If so, feel free to leave a list!

Okay, lovelies… It´s time to wrap this up and cuddle with a thick comforter on the sofa and read my next highly anticipated read from my apocalyptic TBR pile.

But before I go…. I was serious about the book recommendations. Lol.

Tell me about the last book that completely blew your mind. I´m dying to know!

Until next time…

Mucho love

Scheduled Posts

Happy Mug Monday! Today is all about Scheduled posts!

Ever wondered how book blogging would be if we´d schedule posts weeks ahead?

Let me tell you something….

I´m one of those bloggers who´s not only excellent at winging book blogging, I´m also a notorious panic post uploader. What´s a panic post uploader, you ask?

Panic post

That´s me. Always sitting here thinking “Oh, I have a Mug Monday post in a few.” and then giving myself a small heart attack because in a few turns out to be should have been posted an hour ago.

Weeks ago, while sweating like a group of nuns at a cucumber farm, I thought about my whole uploading system. My conclusion: My uploading system is shit.

I needed a new plan. I needed to find a way to be more organized.

So, the question is: How do I become more organized and balanced? How can I optimize my upload system for myself? With 4 uploads a week I should be able to make things more easy.

And it was when the first sweat beads dropped from my eyelids when the idea hit me.

What if I were to start scheduling posts? But not like, for 1-3 days ahead of time. More like, 3-4 weeks! Sounds lovely and too good to be true. Definitely worth a shot, though.

For whatever reasons, I was never good at scheduling posts. But now… Now I´m scheduling the life out of me and enjoying every minute of it.

How do I do it? How is it possible to schedule so far ahead? Easy.

Some of you may have noticed… I have ( as many other book bloggers have as well ) a themed post system where I pick certain days of the week and publish certain topics on the chosen days. For example:

Monday: Mug Monday & Book Talk

Tuesday: Reviews

Wednesday: Something fun / to discuss

Thurday: Something to discuss / something fun

(Posts for certain days can vary, depending on my private schedule.)

Not too complicated, right? In a month, I can upload 4 Mug Monday topics, 4 book reviews, 4 fun posts and 4 discussion posts. That´s truly not much and totally manageable. AND (!!!) I´m not overwhelming my followers with blog posts.

Add that up and I have 16 posts a month. For me, that´s more than enough.

Right now, I´m on a lazy break until September!

I bet you´re asking yourself what I´m doing now that I have created so much time for myself?

Well….. Aside from taking my sweet precious time working on more blog posts I´ve returned to a few long forgotten hobbies of mine.

  • Watching Johnny Depp clips on Youtube ( because I´m obsessed )
  • Replying to comments on time
  • Reading
  • Continuing my DIY projects
  • Watching TV
  • Talking to the husbutt ( which has shocked him on a few occasions. Poor guy just stared at me when I asked what movie we wanted to watch together )

The moral of this post? It’s AWESOME to schedule posts. A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Scheduled posts make life so much easier.

And before I forget about this week´s Mug Monday again…. Here´s another favorite of mine. My Snoopy mug ❤ If I were a cartoon I´d definitely be Snoopy. I´d even go so far and say that he´s my comic spirit animal.

mug monday snoop

And behind the mug is me… watching Johnny Depp clips on Youtube * squeak *.  Why? Because I can. 🙂 ❤

Do you schedule your posts ahead of time or you do just randomly upload your posts? Let´s talk!

That was it for this week. I hope you all enjoyed Mug Monday & Scheduled Post Talk.

Share the book love!

Warm hugs,

Morgana ❤

Educational Books

Hi and welcome back to another Mug Monday!

While the book blog universe has been a little quiet I decided to use the slow days to catch up on other books I love. Educational books. History & Science books, if you like.

Yeah. I´m secretly a nerd. SURPRISE!

Well, I´m not a classic nerd. I´m not one of those Hipster nerds, either. I´m just a normal 36 year old who loves to wear sweats and hates her bra who ALSO happens to have a great appreciation for knowledge.

So, it´s not all about romance for me. Reading Contemporary romances is just a nice escape from reality. I consider fiction as my “fun” reads.

Reading History and Science books… Well, that´s my passion. I can spend hours studying the past and learning about the many things that have shaped our lives today. I can sit on one spot until my ass becomes numb reading psychology, chemistry and biology books. I want to know what makes people tick, what made people tick and how the world functioned hundreds and thousands of years ago.

Mug Monday Blue

Does that make me a nerd? Not really. Just shows I love to read. ❤

As of now, I´m reading a wonderful book about books that changed history. Funnily enough, that´s also the title of the book. `Books That Changed History` by Kathryn Hennessy.

A brilliant read that gives insight on many of the wonderful editions that molded and formed the world as we know it. I´m in book love!

Without any hesitation I´d recommend this book to anyone who´s interested in history.

Now, let´s get back to the nerding bit.

It truly is something fabulous when you´re hungry for knowledge. But there´s also a downside to loving history and science. When you read as many educational reads ( I´ll just call my fav´s that because I´m too lazy to type out history & science ) you also know things. Many things. Can you guess what I´m referring to?

I´m a avid reader and a conversation killer.

Believe it or not ( Okay, fine. Believe it. Lol ) I´m the worst person at any family gatherings and other parties. A buzz kill. Husbutt even told me once that I´m like the music DJs play when it´s time to close a club.

And he´s right. But I can´t help myself! It´s an obsession I don´t want to control. If I´m not reading romances I´m reading educational books. And if I´m not reading at all then that only means I´m occupied with the kids, being a wife to someone who´s afraid of tall grass, and working in a lab. The only thing left is the History channel.

So, yes. Reading history and science books is wonderful but also less cool because you know many MANY things lots of people aren´t interested in. Husbutt tries to act interested but fails. The kids ask a question and then interrupt me mid answer with some other random question. My own mother hangs up on me when I start talking about how the british monarchy lost it´s power. ( Well, I did that on purpose because I was busy. I knew my mom would hang up on me. lol. Best tactic ever! )

It´s a curse to know things. It´s also a blessing because… I know things. Lol.

So, there you have it. I love history & science more than I love romance. ❤

What about you? Is there anything you enjoy reading besides the usual? What genre do you love that no one knows of?

Let´s chat! ( Don´t worry, I won´t bore you with anything I know. Lol )

Happy Mug Monday!

So, what has this little book blogger been up to since her last Mug Monday post? Ha! I´ve been procrastinating. Alright. Fine. If you want to know the truth- I´ve been physically lazy and mentally working overtime.

Ever since my short break I´ve had time to think. Of course, I´ve read a few books, too, but that´s secondary at the moment.

I´ve noticed a shift in my reading tastes. I´m not sure if this has something to do with the lack of good romances being published or if it´s just a phase. I cannot stomach another sappy love story.

Don´t get me wrong. I still love the romance genre. I also still make a beeline towards the women’s fiction aisle in a bookstore and I still search for new romance titles online in hopes for finding something good ( See? I´ve even lowered my book standards ).  But do I find anything worth reading? Not at the moment. It´s as if authors are bored with the genre and just publish romances for the heck of it. That´s probably not true. But give a girl a break. Book hunting is exhausting at the moment. Especially when it´s scorching 35°C ( 95°F ) outside.

So, this means a few things. I could:

a) Continue to tackle the TBR list

b) Wait for a miracle to happen

c) Move on

d) Visit Netgalley

e) Go on another creative break

f) Do garden work

g) Contact friends I promised I´d call… 2 months ago

I contacted the friends- I´m forgiven. I don´t need ANOTHER creative break. Garden work is the greatest punishment ever. My TBR list can kindly go to hell.  I cannot foresee any miracles happening soon so that leaves me with Netgalley.

Netgalley. It´s been a while since I last stepped foot on Book Catalogue Land. Well, it´s been exactly 14 hours ( before that, 3 years ). Since romance isn´t feeding my needs I decided to check out what´s available on Netgalley.

I was successful. Greedy and successful. SO MANY BOOKS. So many non romances. And now, I have loads of Netgalley reads, a giant TBR list and the books I got while on vacation.

Sometimes I really do believe I have fruit missing from my fruit bowl.

Well, at least I have books to read, right? My worries for the romance genre are currently put to rest for the time being. I´ll be occupied with mermaids and pirates, kingdoms and witches now.

Speaking of new books and reading… I just finished this beauty ( pun intended ).

belle

`Belle` ( A retelling of Beauty and the Beast ) by author Cameron Dokey. Did I love, like, enjoy or hate it? Well, I´ll tell you that I fell in love with the cover. The rest of my thoughts will be available in the upcoming review.

The mug is nothing special. Just your typical IKEA mug that probably won´t last long ( they never do in my house ). The cold chocolate milk topped with whipped cream was divine, though.

That´s it for this week, lovies. Now you know I´ve dug my own grave and will now endure a massive and glorious reading marathon.

Hope you enjoy your Monday!

Don´t forget to share the book ❤

Warm hugs,

Morgana <3<3
