August Reading List

It´s unbelievable! We´re already 8 months into 2018.

Happy August! The summer is slowly ( very slowly ) coming to an end and soon it´ll be my second favorite time of year. Autumn! That´s what I keep telling myself to keep my spirits up. I can´t take this heat any longer.

Since I´ve been exceptionally good at keeping up with my monthly reading list announcements ( Insert sarcasm ) I thought I´d give it ANOTHER go and see what happens. Maybe I´ll find time this month to reach my reading goal. Or, maybe I´ll invest in an AC before I do anything else. Let´s see what the future brings.

Prepare yourselves, dear Padawans… August´s reading list might knock you over just like it did with me when I created it.

August Reading List

Hush, Hush ( Hush, Hush #1 ) – Becca Fitzpatrick

Hush Hush

I´m light years too late, I know. But I saw this in a bookstore on vacation and it sounded better than any other book I had in my arms. And the angel on the cover looks like he´s in pain. Not that I get off on that but I do sense that there´s some sort of battle in the paranormal romance novel. That, or… He´s plucking his own feathers because he´s heartbroken. I´ll find out soon enough, won´t I? NOTE: Spoilers  Thoughts on this book are very much welcomed in the comments below.

We, The Drowned – Carsten Jensen

We the drowned

A book recommendation from the lovely Aurora Librialis. I love the cover. I love the synopsis. The whole package looks like one big fat adventurous page turner, something I´m in desperate need of. Can´t wait to get this one started!

All Your Perfects – Colleen Hoover

All your perfects

I can´t have a reading list that doesn´t at least include one romance novel, right? I was a little hesitant about this one. I´m a fan of Colleen Hoover´s older works. Her newer novels ( basically anything published after Maybe Someday ) weren´t for me. When I heard about `All Your Perfects`I wasn´t doing cartwheels but after reading the synopsis I decided to give another Co-Ho book a try. I´m a sucker for troubled marriage romances. Let´s hope this won´t be as disappointing as the previous books were ( for me!!).

The Surface Breaks – Louise O´Neill

The Surface Breaks

The cover is something gorgeous! And, HELLO! Mermaids! What more can I want? What more can I say? Nothing, because I haven´t finished it, yet. I like reading this one while enjoying a foot spa outside (NOTE:  I call my pool a foot spa ).

My lovies, that´s it for this month. I may, or may not, add a few books from my dusty TBR list and include a few reads from Netgalley. Let´s see how that´ll work, if at all.

What are you reading this month? Share your titles and authors and feel free to pressure me into reading one of the books you´ve already read and loved!

Much book love,

Morgana ❤

Non Existent Reading List – June ´18

Morgana´s Book Box

The non-existent June 2018 reading list

It´s true. I, the old and wise book blogger, don´t have any new reads to present. But I have a good reason. Or… let´s just say, reasons, as to why I can´t do new reads this month.

Time is my worst enemy.

I can´t find time. For once I would like to finally catch up on all the blog posts I´ve missed from fellow book bloggers. I would also like to squeeze in a few minutes to discover some new blogs. The second biggest reason as to why I won´t be reading is due to the 8 drafts I still haven´t finished. I have 8 blog posts waiting to be published. That, alone, is driving me absolutely nuts.

Then there are the reality reasons.

REASON #1: It´s summer. It´s flipping hot out ( around 36 °C ). How does one read when one´s eyelids sweat? A/C isn´t a common european standard so we do the stone age A / C: Wake up before the sun´s out and air out the house then make everything dark again and complain for 10 hours until humidity hits it´s peak and suffer. Repeat. I did manage to surprise the husbutt the other day when I built a swamp air cooler ( because sitting in the dark wasn´t an option anymore )

REASON #2: It´s really close to summer break for the girls so…. Teachers are picking up the teaching pace and shoving everything they´ve missed out on down the kids throats before they´re released into the world of sleeping in for 6 weeks.

REASON #3: And then there´s the bit where I tell you that I´m going on a vacation with the husbutt…. and WITHOUT THE KIDS!

Yes. I´ll be officially offline and childless for 5 days, as we´ll have no reception in the middle of Scotland´s wilderness. Phones off. Hiking gear on. Tent ready. Wool socks packed.

To be honest, I don´t know what the hell I´m doing or why I decided to convince the husbutt that wild camping is good for us but now Imma gonna go hiking and wild camping. Ignore the fact that I don´t like camping… We´re going and it´s probably going to be hell. And then the biggest challenge: Walking up Ben Nevis, Scotland´s highest mountain ( feel free to correct me if I´m wrong about that. Hubby did the fact check. I bought the tent so that means I´m safe.) All this is going to happen on the June 25th. I can´t wait to not burn in the sun and suffer from a 6 week sun allergy.

So you see? I can´t read this month.

Bah. Saying that feels like I´ve commited a bookish crime.

It also feels like I´m going to book hell for even typing this.

But hey, husbutt and I have a death wish ( no climbing or hiking experience, either. WOOP ) and death wishes come before books, apparently.

So, there ya  have it. Sweat, swamp coolers, tons of homework incl. elementary school graduation and a nice death wish vacay  in cold Scotland.

Fortunately, there will be some pre scheduled posts going up during my time in the wilderness fighting off ticks and whatever else that flies and wants to eat me alive.

I call that a successful month.

What I do hope is to convince my better half on going to a bookstore while we´re on vacation. Let´s keep our fingers crossed that I can manage to lose him for an hour. Lol.

What are your plans for the summer? Are you going on vacation or will you enjoy a nice stay – at – home relaxation time?

I would love to read your thoughts! ❤ ❤

Some Book Blogger I am.

It´s been quite some time since I´ve book blogged.

May has been a challenging month for me. A few weeks back I´ve been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism ( underactive thyroid ). I´ve been told it´s not a “big deal” because my levels are minimal… but still. The news had me rethinking my whole lifestyle.

I took a step back from the book world to think. Well, I thought a lot and came to one conclusion: There wasn´t much to rethink.

I´m already living relatively healthy.  It´s the lack of Iodine that´s the problem.

So, the doctors suggestions were: No meds ( yet, as I don´t suffer from any thyroid typical symptoms and I don´t have alarming test results ), eat fish and go to the gym.
His final words were:
“Don´t worry. It´s not uncommon for women your age to have this problem.”

What a way to cheer someone up.

Guess what I´ve been doing for a solid month now? Including fish in my diet and working out. Am I enjoying my new life? Absolutely not. I miss my naps.

Let´s see how that all pans out. Let´s keep our fingers crossed that I won´t have to take meds after my next check up in September.

Besides looking out for myself more I´ve played the best man / best sister for my brother´s wedding! I met new relatives ( I call them new because I´ve never seen them before nor have I known of their existence ). And my best man´s speech didn´t go down so well. But that was expected since I suck at speaking infront of a crowd. I only hope 80 % were drunk and weren´t able understand a thing I said. I´ve heard no complaints yet.

On to the books…

Between the chaos I managed to create a reading list and actually reached my reading goal for the month of May! Who would have thought ( certainly not me. Lol ). I also managed to think of new post ideas.

I had a wonderful mix of everything and even had the chance to add a few books from my TBR list to my May reads.

Completed List

The Little Book Of Hygge – Meik Wiking

Little Black Book – Otegha Uwagba

Ash Princess – Laura Sebastian

A Court Of Frost And Starlight – Sarah J. Maas

Added Reads

Cry, Heart, But Never Break – Glenn Ringtved ( children´s )

The First Touch Of Sunlight – Len Webster  ( romance )

The Wicked Deep by – Shea Ernshaw  ( Fantasy, YA )

That´s 7 (!!) books in a month. I can´t believe it myself but I did it.

Just on a friendly note: My deepest apologies for not replying or commenting on blog posts I follow ( or haven´t yet followed but have been meaning to ). I´ll be sure to take some time off to catch up on ALL the good stuff I´ve missed out on. Looking forward to read some awesomeness from the book blog world!

So, now let´s group hug and move on to the next month.

Here´s to more challenges and that you all and I over come them with ease!

Much love,

Morgana ❤ ❤

Reading List – May 2018

Good – bye, April. Hello, May.

Yeah, I know, I know. I´m late with my reading list…again. But I have a great excuse. One that will have you shrugging your shoulders as if to say ” So?”.

I was extremely busy. Busy as in I – had – to – be – social – for – once.

It was tough but I survived. My brother is married and now I need some quality time away from people.

It´s still early in the month, though. So, technically…. I´m not THAT late with wanting to present my reading list for May.

Ready to see my wicked list of books that I randomly picked to read and review?

A Court Of Frost And Starlight ( A Court Of Thorns And Roses #3.1 ) – Sarah J. Maas

A Court Of rost And StarlightGenre: Fantasy / NA

Pages: 229

Publication Date: May 2018

While I wasn´t happy with books 1 – 3 from the ACOTAR I´m still willing to give this “what happened after ” read a try. Why? Well, I don´t like unfinished business. The author created so many characters in books 1 – 3 that there´s a small chance we´ll get to see some of these characters get their own spotlight. Fingers crossed!

A Court Of Thorns And Roses , A Court Of Mist And Fury,  A Court Of Wings And Ruin

The Little Book Of Hygge: The Danish Way To Live Well – Meik Wiking

hygge Genre: Non – fiction

Pages: 240

Publication Date: September 2016

I saw this book on one of my book shopping sprees and had to have it. I haven´t read it yet but from the looks of it the book looks and feels like an oversized magazine about Denmark rather than being a self-help book ( it was also classified as Self Help ).  I´m loving the cover and loved what I saw while I scanned through the pages before I bought this little gem. I can´t wait to see what the Danish have that can improve my already weird and wacky lifestyle. I´m hoping for learning more about the country and what the people do that makes them so awesome.

Little Black Book – Otegha Uwagba

little black book

Genre: Non – Fiction

Pages: 113

Publication Date: June 2017

I´m a working woman. I want to see what the toolkit has to offer. Maybe I´m doing something wrong that I´m not aware of? Who knows. All I know is that I like the package of this book. Not so much the fact that it´s also in the feminism category. I´m a little suspicious about that because if there is anything I dislike more,  it´s a book written by a 2.0 feminist who wants to shove her extreme beliefs down my throat. Let´s hope that this is just a simple “how to juggle work and life” booklet.

Ash Princess  ( Ash Princess Trilogy #1 ) – Laura Sebastian

Ash Princess

Genre: Fantasy / YA

Pages: 432

Publication Date: April 2018

I can´t have a reading list without including at least one fantasy read, right? I don´t know why… but I´m actually looking forward to read `Ash Princess`. Sounds like something I´m in desperate need of.

And of course, I´ll be working off my TBR list while reading these awesome picks.

Let the fun begin!

Much love,

Morgana xx

It´s Time To Tackle The TBR List

A book lover has 3 enemies.

  1. Time
  2. Money
  3.  The blasted TBR List

While some of you might see only 2 out of the 3 as a true problem.. I consider all 3 points a pain in my spring chicken bum.

Time is always working against me. There´s never enough money at the right moment for the newest release / newly discovered book. And that good for nothing, ever-growing TBR list keeps getting longer by the day / week / month.

The Struggle is real.

It´s like a vicious cycle that never ends.

If I do, by some miracle, have money for books, then I usually don´t have time to read.

The end result: I buy the books I want and they land on the TBR pile. And since I avoid ebooks I literally have a pile of unread paperbacks, neatly stacked somewhere safe, with the false promise that I´ll one day read those books. ( I have more unread ebooks but since I´m avoiding my Kindle… those may never meet my eyes )

book stack pile

It´s the same crap every month.

But it´s time to break the never-ending cycle. It´s time to be the breaker of TBR lists.

I am so done. Fed up. Tired of looking at all the pretty paperbacks and thinking I´ll get to those one day.

The brutal truth is- I bought all those books for a reason. TO READ THEM. At some point in my life, they all sounded awesome. Why I haven´t read them?

Because something always got in my way. New releases, social life, the latest fb gossip, a hot bubble bath session, dinner… There was always something that kept me from diving into the books on my dusty TBR list.

Not anymore.

My grande idea: To tackle the TBR list.

Now, hold on a minute.

I know there´s no way I will EVER be able to get rid of the mile long TBR list. I´m doomed for life. All book lovers are. Even the occasional readers who have miniature TBR lists are doomed. There´s no escaping. We´ll all die with a TBR list one day. ( What an awful thought. Bah. )

But wouldn´t it be fab if our lists weren´t a mile long?

Think of all the money we could save if we touched the books we already possess instead of buying new ones or accepting new advanced reader copies!

So, the idea of tackling the TBR list is there. Now on to the next step.

How Does One Tackle The TBR List?

I can´t speak for others but my idea looks like this:

  • Avoid social media
  • Avoid bookstores
  • Avoid Amazon

And while avoiding the internet altogether I´ll do the unthinkable.

  • Pick a book from my TBR pile and start reading.
  • Pick another book after I´ve finished the last.
  • Pick another one until the TBR list looks somewhat presentable.

Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, it is simple in theory but it won´t be an easy task. I can already smell the sweet scent of failure in my near future. That doesn´t mean I can´t try, right? RIGHT?

So, let´s raise our drinks ( Mugs, cups, flutes, bottles ) and make a toast!

HERE`S TO TRIMMING THE EVIL TBR LIST!

How long is your TBR list and have you ever attempted to downsize it? If you have then tell me your secrets! I´m dying to know how you did the unthinkable.

If this post has inspired you to tackle your own TBR list then feel free to join in on the fun! Shared pain is half the pain! Let´s create a miracle together. If not then I´ll be sure to give you updates on how I´m suffering from not buying the awesome new releases. But be warned- I´ll be moaning and nagging a lot while reducing the TBR list.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Many hugs,

Morgana ❤ ❤
