My Thoughts

How do I write this review without offending people?

I have 2 choices. Either not write a review at all or just go for it and accept whatever shitstorm will come my way. Just bear in mind that I am not religious, by any means, ( like- at all) but I´m relatively tolerant about religion ( until religion becomes a problem). I accept the beliefs of others ( unless they try to sell me their beliefs). But I will become an unpleasant companion when I hear / read about discrimination towards love.

I want to start off by saying that I find the warning in the synopsis completely unnecessary. There are topics in this book that don´t need warnings.  They need a spotlight brighter than any stadium light can provide.

The topics tackled in this read are painful, yes. Yet, none of those deserve to be warned about. They´ve been kept in the dark long enough. Those topics deserve to be talked about. The thing about warnings are: They give people a heads up before they read something uncomfortable. If suicide, sexual identity and self harm are topics that need a warning label then I´m slowly losing faith in humanity. Those words need just as much spotlight as the words happiness, joy and fulfillment already have.

This really aggravates me to no end because there is nothing I dislike more than people shying away from the topics mentioned above or not liking to be confronted with sexual identity. It´s sad enough people struggle with the idiocy and hypocrisy from many people.

With that being said….

`The Silver Cage`by Annonymous – A dark M/M romance that was more tragic than romantic. A tragedy that didn´t quite tug the right heart-strings. I thought I would get to read a deep emotional, ugly cry story. What I got was, indeed, emotional… I just became utterly pissed instead of sad. the silver cage

Pissed about the fact that somewhere, someone is truly suffering like these characters were.

Pissed about what religion / faith can do to people ( Because if God is picky about who he/she/it loves then he/she/it is no better than a mother picking a favorite child. I bet alot would call child service on a mother quicker than blaming God for not being the embodiment of perfection ).

Pissed that there isn´t enough tolerance in our day of age. We live in 2018. Give me a damn break.

I´m more emotionally charged that being an emotional mess.

`The Silver Cage` is not just a simple fairy-tale. It´s a punch – in –  your –  gut story that´s more real than not.

I applaud the author for the clever pen name. I applaud the author for being brave when they shouldn´t have to be. I bow before anyone who writes a story that´s about 2 men struggling to live their lives.

So why am I giving `The Silver Cage` 3 out of 5 stars? It´s not because of the story itself. I liked the story alot and think there aren´t enough stories like this one available, especially for a younger audience.

I wasn´t particularly a fan of the writing style and I felt the characters weren´t as committed as they were set out to be. I might be completely alone with my opinion * shoulder shrug * . I just think that when you struggle with something then there should be more of an inner conflict going on.

Still- I enjoyed this book and would advise anyone to read it.

`The Silver Cage` by Anonymous is an eye – opener and it sends out a deep and meaningful message. Something I completely welcome in books.

Would I recommend this book? Without a doubt, yes.

Would I reread this book? I can´t say. I probably would. It´s deep. I´d have to be in the mood for deep.

The Cover – 4 stars ( It´s simple. It´s one of those covers that stop you for a second look)

The Story – 3 stars ( While I believe it´s a good story about topics that need attention, the writing wasn´t my cup of tea.)

The Characters – 3 stars ( My heart goes out to these poor souls but… the connection between them was a bit flat for me)

My emotional state after finishing this read – Aggravated. Satisfied. I want to drown myself in wine at the thought that there are still people who aren´t accepting.

3 stars

Carnage- The Story of Us ( Carnage #1) by Lesley Jones

Book Description

I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart and he owns my body and no matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, we will find a way.

“Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry” … He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it…
“I said I love you like the stars above, I’ll love you till I die”

Carnage is an edgy coming of age love story that breaks all the rules and transcends the decades. Georgia and Sean’s story will stay with you long after you read the final word.
An emotional, smoking hot, gut wrenching read.

NOTE: This is part #1 of a 2 part story but can be read as a stand alone.

My Thoughts

Hands down- This is one of the most twisted reads I´ve read in years! What a complete emotional clusterfuck.

It´s sex, drugs, rock ´n roll & relationships on a neverending rollercoaster ride. A trainwreck that repeats itself over and over again. You want to look away but you can´t. You don´t want to look away, either. You don´t want to witness the characters devastating moments but you have to! You want to interfere and help but it´s impossible.

Be prepared. Due to the language, graphic scenes etc. etc. etc. this might not be for a younger audience. If you´re under age then please go away now.

We meet a young Georgia Rae in the early 80´s and watch her grow with the years. She falls in love with Sean pretty young, loves the soon-to-be mega rockstar hard ( too hard ), and from there on Georgia´s life is one huge mess. A mess no one can fix.

And just when you think life couldn´t suck anymore for the poor girl, something more earth shattering happens. ( I´m saying girl / young woman because that´s basically what she is throughout the majority of the story )

Now, after having finished the story I can truly say I´m an absolute wreck. Even more of a wreck than I was after reading the After series by Anna Todd and that had me thinking for days ( Not that I´m comparing After with Carnage. I´m definitely not.). I really thought there was nothing that could top the mess that book created. `Carnage` definitely pulls the rug from beneath your feet.

`Carnage` is one of those stories where you constantly hold your breath because you just know the author isn´t out for her characters to live happy, fulfilled lives ( I´m dead serious. Only a few characters were able to breathe in peace in this story). I kept wishing, hoping, yes, even praying that the characters would have some happy moment in their lives and at one point they do.

But will it last?

Despite this being sort of a tragic / self-destructive romance I thought it was pretty brilliant. I loved how the author went for a different decade. As a child from that time myself, I got excited everytime details were mentioned ( such as, clothes, hairstyles, cars, etc. ). It was like travelling back in time ( minus the drug use, of course. I was a tad too young for that ). * sigh *

When you get yourself involved with a rockband you won´t get hearts and flowers around the clock. You get gossip, heartbreak ( even if it´s slightly unhealthy…okay okay, who am I kidding- The heartbreak was a disaster! She needed therapy. I need therapy! ), the wrong kind of protection, fake friends, etc. It´s not really pretty.

Never have I seen a romantic relationship like Georgia and Seans before. It was just…wow. Talk about loving someone for life! You love with Sean and Georgia. You suffer with them. Their worries become yours and their happiness makes you want to hug the world.

I refuse to talk about the end. Nope. Won´t go there. All you need to know is that you´ll need a truck supply of kleenex because shit hit´s the fan. You don´t see it coming. Like….at all. When I realized what had happened the waterworks started and wouldn´t stop.

Since this is kind of a „love or hate“ story I wouldn´t necessarily recommend `Carnage`to the world. For readers who love a good wild story with lots of WTH & OMG moments then you´ll enjoy this one. For others who are looking for romances with sappy, clean cut won´t find it here.

The Cover – 3 stars ( Not really my cup of tea. If I´m honest-I would never have given this book a chance if my friend hasn´t pushed me to read it. )

The Story – 5 stars ( A brilliant mess. Young love, fame, gossip, relationship crisis, self-destruction, love, heartache, drugs, kids, family, life… the author did a great job. LOVE)

The Characters – 5 stars ( * nod * Oh yeah, there was some major loving from my end. They were fantastic. )

My emotional state after finishing this read – far beyond emotionally drained. I cried, cried more and in the end I didn´t recognize myself anymore.

Despite me not liking the cover I´m still giving `Carnage` by Lesley Jones 5 out of 5 stars!
